What bothers me about our own Second Cup franchise is that honey, the stuff I use to sweeten my tea with, isn't on the counter anymore. Also, they don't use real apple cider, but powered apple cider. Oh and also, can't forget this one, never do the Second Cup people remind customers before close. In mid thought, the place goes dark and instead of music, there's no music, and all you ear is noisy chatter that becomes head-turning-akward-chatter that fades into the realization that it's home time. I mean, that's appropriate, if this were a high school make out party, but it's not. It's a public cafe and it's socially inept if you ask me. At Starbucks, I always get a gentle reminder, like 15 or 20 minutes before close reminding me that the end is near. I always smile back. At Second Cup, when it goes dark, I usually say shit, pull the power plug and pour the remainder of my drink down my throat.

Starbucks seems to understand brand experience better than Second Cup. In most Second Cup's, especially the newly renovated ones, it's cafeteria style, things seem to be moving towards QSR (quick service restaurant) style, fast turn-around, less loyalty.

So here I am, at Starbucks almost ready for my second tall white mocha americana soy misto light water with whip cup. I've been here for 3 hours and spent over $10 so far. I'll stop now, before I start comparing the two.

Yes, my second entry. Highfive

Dear Diary, the first time of anything isn't as exciting for the audience as it is for me, and I expect that. Nevertheless, here is mine, my first blog entry. I won't be talking about this website, nor will I launch a campaign for it. Content is king, so the idea is to publish killer content that creeps up on news-feeds, search results and hopefully one day, as references used by other bloggers. All this is an experiment in social media and my practice in brain-dump-diary-style-copy-writing. I don't expect to write as well as Timothy Ferris (Four Hour Work Week), Lori Deschene (Tiny Buddha), Leo Babauta (Zen Habbits) or Seth Godin but these blogs influence me and I consider their authors my colleagues. 52weeks.ca, is a place where I scribble and scribe until I find something I like.

This website sits on a Movable Type platform and everything you see is custom made, hand tweeked by me or by my Movable-Type-CSS-Master of a nephew, Faramarz.

Heart shaped, yes. That tag cloud on the front page is shaped that way because I love you. If you're reading this entry, you've probably found it on Google or virally, by like'ing and dig'ing. Having said that, it's because of you, the reader, that I will make millions. I love you all and want to touch you all in inappropriate places. (Am I funny?) Here's the thing, I'm looking for ways to offer value in my writing episodes. Why would someone read this? I know I wouldn't if I was you. If something has no value for me, I have no interest in it, or anyone else per se, especially on the internet. So why would you read my stuff? This is something I'm thinking about.

The tag cloud is an index of my mind. Tags are thoughts and my thoughts are synchronized with my mind, and to the best of my ability, I'll use this blog to vomit vocabulary. An automated script will detect and catalogue dominating words (my thoughts) and display them as tags. At the end of the day, the idea is to relax my feet up and look at my thoughts. I figure only good things can come from this experiment, some kind of a psycho therapeutic good effect thing type of effect. Let's see what happens.

The script uses the top 700 words I think/write about. This is where, unlike most things in life, size matters. The size of the font demonstrates the strength of the thought and the number of times I mention it. If you see the word help in giant letters, for example, it means I'm desperate for it. If you click the word (my thought) blog entries containing that word will display. The cloud automatically updates itself every 12 hours.

What are my goals?

Improve copy writing and editorial skills. I like feedback, please comment.

Psycho therapy (the tag cloud). Self reflection is healthy I suppose.

A Movable Type guinea pig. This is where I test widgets for real paying MT clients.

Self promotion. I want to be cool.

That's all for now, a day at a time. I'm sure things change as I move along. I don't expect anyone to read this page, and if there is someone actually reading this, say something?

Anyhow, that's it for now. Today is September 20, I'll never forget this day. The day I blogged.
